MERRY WIVES OF TEES ALE

Wikio - Top Blogs - Wine and beer

The winner of this year’s Castle Players “name the ale” is Rosie Bradford, who came up with the inspired “The Merry Wives of Tees Ale”! Winner Rosie Bradford joined members at the Mithril Ales at Aldborough St John brewery, in Richmond, to add hops to her ‘Merry Wives of Tees Ale’.

The Castle Players, who have delighted audiences with outdoor Shakespeare for over 25 years in the grounds of Barnard Castle’s Bowes Museum, invited the public to name a specially brewed beer for their latest play – The Merry Wives of Windsor. Castle Player, Adele Tyler, said the group had been hosting the competition for more than three years and was delighted with the winner. Ms Tyler explained that the idea for the competition came about because of close links with The Old Well Inn, in Barnard Castle, where the group first started 26 years ago when some friends decided to play charades in the middle of a power cut.

Now the owner of the pub is also a Castle Player and has started the tradition of holding the beer competition every year. The Merry Wives of Windsor is set in the early 20th century and features suffragettes and an Edwardian music hall.

Merry Wives of Tees Ale went out to:

The White Swan, Gilling West
The Quakerhouse, Darlington
