CLOCK'S BACK

Wikio - Top Blogs - Wine and beer

Mithril Ales doesn't want to get all political here - but (and I'm not promoting The Independent). But, there does seem to be some valid arguments about putting the clocks forward (double summertime) and therefore having lighter afternoons during the winter months - in terms of increased tourism, safer roads etc - why not read the article yourself and see what you think?

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/time-for-debate-dont-forget-the-clocks-go-back-overnight-but-should-they-8904258.html

Anyway, forward or back the ale was delivered to the following fine establishments:

 The Old Well, Barnard Castle
The Ship, Middlestone Village
The Half Moon, Darlington
The White Swan, Gilling West
Shakey Fest
The County, Aycliffe Village
Loco Number 1, Heighington Station
Voodoo Cafe, Darlington
The Stanwick, Aldbrough St John
Croft Hotel, Croft On Tees
Scotch Fest IV
Glaxo Sports and Social Club, Barnard Castle
The Four Alls, Ovington

 Enjoy!

WILLIAM THE CONKERER

Wikio - Top Blogs - Wine and beer

No, I haven't got my history dates mixed up - it's not a homage to the Battle of Hastings but rather a celebration of conkers!

Health and safety, may prohibit kids playing conkers nowadays, or they have to wear so much protective gear they can barely elicit a proper swing.

Why not pop along to wikipedia for all things conkering (health and safety concerns included):

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conkers

The Conkerer was to be found at the following fine ale houses:

The Old Well, Barnard Castle
The Crown, Manfield
The Half Moon, Darlington
The Black Bull, Melsonby
The Bishop Blaize, Richmond
The Bridge, Whorlton
The Red Lion, Cotherstone
The Old Vic, Darlington
The Four Alls, Ovington
The Stanwick, Aldbrough St John
Croft Hotel, Croft on Tees

SCOTCH FEST IV - DANCING TOUR OF EAST SCOTLAND 22-26th October 2013

Wikio - Top Blogs - Wine and beer

Scotchfest IV Morris

We were delighted to be asked to provide some ales for Scotchfest IV, a dancing tour of Morris Men of the East of Scotland . It's the furthest Mithril Ales has travelled, and included 'William the Conkerer, Flower Power and also Clocks Back'

From their press release:

THE MORRIS ARE COMING!!

It was in 2009 that a group of 24 Morris dancers from Yorkshire first came up to Brechin to perform for a week around the coastal region from Arbroath to Stonehaven. So popular was the excursion that Morris men from all over the country applied to be included in the party in subsequent years. With their bright costumes, bells, stick clashing and vigorous dancing style, they have attracted significant audiences in the past. Said Peter Halfpenney, Past Squire of the National Morris Association, The Morris Ring and organiser of the tour: “We have performers coming this year from as far away as Bristol, Kent, Surrey, Sussex and Essex as well as the usual contingent from more northerly regions.

We are so looking forward to enjoying again the warm welcome from the enthusiastic Scots crowds that turn out to watch us dance, sing and make music.” Dubbed “Scotchfest IV Morris” after the “few drams” that they like to sample whilst in Scotland, they will be conducting two full-day dancing tours this year as well as three evenings out in local hostelries. They encourage customers in the bars to join in their singing sessions by providing songbooks for all, and thereby ensure that a lively atmosphere is generated.

Morris dancing is the longest preserved dance style in England, having been performed continually since the 1300s. Over 14,000 performers belong to sides the length and breadth of the country.

UNFORTUNATELY, MY HOPES OF LEARNING ARCHERY WERE CRUELLY DASHED - WHEN I WAS GIVEN A 'BIG HAMMER' TO HOLD IN MY SCENES. NOT SO MUCH MR D MILLE I AM READY FOR MY CLOSE UP, AS MR D MILLE DO YOU HAVE SOME DIY YOU WANT ME TO DO?

RICHMOND 10K - RICHMOND BEER FESTIVAL SPECIAL ALE

Wikio - Top Blogs - Wine and beer

The original plan for this pump clip, which could have led to divorce (if only). Was to sneakily put a picture of Mrs Mithril on. Mrs Mithril, took up running just under a year ago with the Swaledale Road Runners who organise the Richmond 10K. Unfortunately, she went and tore her achilles when in training for the 10K - which was a bit selfish. I don't think a picture of someone resting on the sofa would have conveyed the image I was trying to get across.

The moral of this story is clearly, support the beer festival and drink the beer - it's far safer!

The ale will be available at the following:

 The Old Well, Barnard Castle
The Ship Inn, Middlestone Village
The Half Moon, Darlington
The White Swan, Gilling West
The Shoulder of Mutton, Kirby Hill
The Richmond Beer Festival
The Red Lion, Cotherstone
The Lord Nelson, Appleton Wiske
The Stanwick, Aldbrough St John
The Croft Hotel, Croft on Tees
The Four Alls, Ovington
Glaxo Sport and Social Club, Barnard Castle
